The Point also features a supermarket, lounge areas and leisure facilities where you can catch your breath after wandering through the bookshops, household stores and sportswear outlets on location.
Building upon Malta’s rich history
The Point Shopping Mall is part of the architectural overhaul of the Tigné Point Peninsula that started decades ago after Malta won its independence. The impressive shopping center is a modern component of the area together with the Fort Cambridge residential apartments, which many refer to as the tallest buildings on the island.
Before hosting this vibrant city life, the Tigné Point Peninsula was the scene of remarkable historical events. During the Ottoman siege of Malta in the 16th century, the area was a stationing area for the invading ships which were commanded by Admiral Dragut. The locals were guarding the land upon a feeble watch post and managed to kill the Ottoman leader in a blazing fire exchange. The extremity of the peninsula thus gained its current name of The Dragut Point.
The name of the peninsula comes from the Tigné Fort, which the Order of Saint John built here at the end of the 18th century, and which housed a 100-ton canon when the British took over control of the island. Located in the vicinity of The Point Shopping Mall, the fort is now available to visitors who can get a panoramic view of the surroundings.
After being neglected for decades, the Tigné Point Peninsula is currently going through a redevelopment project that aims to enhance the viability of this historical location in Malta. The building of the Point Shopping Mall and the nearby residential districts is a significant part of the restoration process. Nowadays, the entire area is a popular destination for the locals and the tourists alike.
